Watersports available locally
There are many opportunities locally to participate in a wide range of
water-based sporting and leisure activities. Here we list a few to whet your
appetite!
Yachting and Boating - Denia and Javea Marinas
Located in the southeast section of the port, this marina completes the
magnificent line-up of facilities available in Denia. Denia's busy ferry
services, plus a growing international sea trade ensures that the marina's
moorings are busy all year round. Each year a growing number of sailing
enthusiasts from different countries use this area as their home base in
view of the attractions of the Costa Blanca and the amenities to be found
here. Situated only 48 nautical miles from the Balearics, the Denia Yacht
Club offers an excellent base for boating in the Mediterranean.
The Port of Javea, adjacent to Cabo San Antonio, has 352 moorings. Within
a short sailing trip from the port are the capes of San Antonio and San
Martín. Sailing south around Portichol Island towards the Cabo de la Nao
leads you to the clear waters of Granadella cove. Just south of Cabo San
Antonio and close to a marine nature reserve, the Club Nautico de Javea has
excellent amenities including a restaurant, café, social hall and swimming
pool. There is also a light sailing craft school operating during the summer
months and on weekends throughout the rest of the year.

Sub-Aqua and Scuba
The coast to the south of the port - highlighted against the backdrop of
the rugged Montgo nature reserve - is characterised by cliffs and rocky
inlets with clear waters that stretch as far as Cabo San Antonio. This is a
natural marine reserve which forms an ideal setting for diving enthusiasts.
The under-water visibility in this part of the Mediterranean Sea is very
good, especially at the locations further away from the coast. Visibility
ranges of 20 to 40 meters (or approximately 65 to 130 feet) is quite normal.
There are some days with heavier seas which reduce visibility, but these are
relatively rare. There are plenty of dive sites to choose from, so you
should be able to find at least one with calm seas.
Cave Diving
WARNING! Never dive in caves unless you are qualified and
experienced!
The landscape between Denia and Benidorm lies an area packed with
underwater caves and caverns - many remain unexplored. North of
Moraira lies the 'Moraig' cave system, an underground river that ends up in
the sea.
Wreck Diving
WARNING! Never dive wrecks unless you are qualified and
experienced!
The deepest wrecks along the Costa Blanca are:

Sea Excursions
Excursiones Marítimas Mundo Marino specialises in sea excursions and has
bases in the ports of Denia, Javea and Calpe. The company operates
pleasure-boat trips between the Cap San Antonio and the Rock de Ifach. These
trips are an excellent way for non-sailors to discover the hidden charms of
this part of the Costa Blanca.

Boat Rental
There are a number of boat and yacht Charter specialists based in and
around Denia. This area has the huge benefit of being positioned on the
mainland of Spain closest the the Balearic islands, with Ibiza and
Formentera just 48 and 60 nautical miles from Denia respectively. Many
charter customers enjoy cruising close to the port base of Denia as the
coastline is so beautiful. Along the rocky coastline there are many
beautiful coves, beaches and caves, some of which are only accessible from
the sea.
Beaches and Windsurfing
At Javea, there is a small sandy beach backed by many cafes and bars, a
very popular spot for families. Moraira also has a lovely little beach.
Denia's busy port divides the local coastline into two completely
different sections. These are known as "Marines" and "Rotas". The
busier popular beaches stretch more than ten kilometres away from Denia towards the
north. Here you will find full beach facilities, including services to rent windsurf equipment
and where you can learn to windsurf. These beaches
are ideal for windsurf enthusiasts since the winds here suit enthusiasts of
all levels. Winds are typically lighter breezes in the morning (ideal for
beginners!) with somewhat stronger south-westerly winds building later on in
the afternoon.
